Terms of Service

Last updated: October 9, 2026

These Terms govern your use of California Water Exam Ready (the "Site"), a free, independent study tool for certification and licensure exams in the water, wastewater, and public works fields. By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. The service

The Site provides practice quizzes, mock exams, flashcards, a math training module, links to the official formula sheets each certifying body publishes, and related study materials for the following exams:

Most tracks are written to California law and California certification programs. The Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector track and the national engineering exams follow national standards.

The Site is provided free of charge. There is no account, no subscription, and no required payment.

2. Independence and non-affiliation

California Water Exam Ready is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way associated with any certifying, licensing, or regulatory body, including the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), its Division of Drinking Water (DDW) and Wastewater Operator Certification Program (WWOCP); the California-Nevada American Water Works Association (CA-NV AWWA); the California Water Environment Association (CWEA); the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES); the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (BPELSG); the Contractors State License Board (CSLB); and the American Public Works Association (APWA).

References to those organizations, their programs, exams, and publications are descriptive only and do not imply endorsement. Their names, exam titles, and marks remain the property of their respective owners.

3. Study aid only, not professional or legal advice

The Site is a study aid. It is not a substitute for accredited training, on-the-job experience, the regulations, codes, and standards themselves, or the materials each certifying body provides to its candidates. Nothing on the Site is legal, regulatory, engineering, or other professional advice, and nothing on the Site is stamped, sealed, or offered as engineering work. The author holds California water operator certifications and is a licensed California civil engineer; the author's checks of the content are spot checks, which are sampling and not a professional review, and not every item has been individually verified. Confirm operational, compliance, and design decisions against current regulations, codes, and standards and the guidance of qualified personnel.

Exam details. Exam formats, question counts, time limits, eligibility rules, and similar details described on the Site are summarized from what the certifying bodies publish, and they can change. Where the Site says so, a mock exam's length and timer are the Site's own practice settings rather than the official format. Confirm current details with the certifying body before you register for or sit an exam.

4. How the study content is written and sourced

Practice questions, flashcards, mock exams, and explanations are AI-written under the sourcing policy below and then put through repeated review: regulatory values checked against primary sources, calculations recomputed, and errors corrected. Content is written in the Site's own words, and each track names the published exam outline or test plan its topic coverage follows.

The policy draws on:

The policy excludes:

Content is checked against this policy, including by comparing item wording against reference material. Any item found to fall outside the policy is rewritten from primary sources or removed. If you believe an item does, please tell us (see Section 5).

No question or answer on the Site is taken from any actual examination administered by any certifying body. Real examination questions are confidential and will not appear here. If you believe any content on the Site appears to derive from an actual exam, please contact us using the address below so we can review and remove it.

Performance on the Site does not guarantee a passing score on any actual examination. Results from the Site are not a credential and should not be represented as one.

5. Reporting errors and content concerns

Practice and mock exam questions carry a "Report this question" link that opens a pre-filled email. We review every report and correct or remove content that is wrong.

If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, reproduces a confidential exam or document, or otherwise should not be here, email us with (a) the work or material concerned, (b) where it appears on the Site, such as the question identifier or page address, and (c) the basis for your concern. We will review it promptly and remove or rewrite any content we are not entitled to use. Please do not send us actual exam questions or text from a confidential document, even to point out a match; describe the concern instead.

6. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

7. Your study data

Your study progress is stored only in your own browser, as the Privacy Policy describes. We cannot see, restore, or recover it. You are responsible for keeping your own backup with the app's Export option, and we are not responsible for lost progress, including loss caused by clearing browser data, changing devices, or updates to the Site. Import only files you exported yourself or otherwise trust.

8. Intellectual property

The Site, including its text, code, layout, and original questions and explanations, is owned by California Water Exam Ready and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may use the Site for personal, non-commercial study. You may not reproduce, republish, sell, or build a competing study product from the Site's content without prior written permission.

Regulations, standards, codes, manuals, formula sheets, and other works published by others remain the property of their owners. The Site cites them by name, teaches the underlying concepts in original wording, and links to the official sources. It does not host copies of them or reproduce their text or tables.

9. No warranties

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available," without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including without limitation warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, or availability. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the Site is free of viruses or other harmful components. We make no warranty regarding study outcomes, exam performance, or pass rates.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, California Water Exam Ready and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Site, whether based in contract, tort, statute, or any other legal theory. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Site shall not exceed one hundred United States dollars ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, in which case these limits apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

11. Third-party links and services

The Site links to websites and services it does not control, including certifying-body pages, official formula sheets, and the optional links that open a question in ChatGPT or Claude for a further explanation. We are not responsible for their content, policies, or practices. Answers from an AI assistant are generated by that service, are not reviewed by us, and may be wrong; check them against the official materials. Use of those services is at your own risk and subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

12. Sponsorship and advertising

The Site does not currently display advertising or sponsored content, and it does not use third-party advertising networks. If sponsorship is introduced, sponsored content will be clearly labeled "Sponsored" next to the creative, in line with the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides (16 C.F.R. Part 255), and outbound links to sponsors will use the rel="sponsored" attribute. Sponsorship will not influence the practice questions, explanations, or other study content, which are written independently.

Any sponsor must, as a condition of appearing on the Site, comply with all applicable advertising laws and industry codes, hold any licenses required to advertise to California consumers, and take responsibility for the accuracy and legality of its own creative and claims. We may refuse or remove sponsored content at any time and for any reason.

13. Privacy

Your use of the Site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes what (limited) information we collect and how it is handled.

14. Changes to the Site or these Terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site, including adding or removing tracks, at any time, with or without notice. We may update these Terms from time to time; the "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Your continued use of the Site after updated Terms are posted constitutes acceptance of the changes.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising under or relating to these Terms or your use of the Site shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

16. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the unenforceable provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its original intent.
